AsiaNetwork Canada is a forum for networking where Asian Canadians and non-Asian Canadians meet to discuss business and pleasure, to be informed and inspired, primarily through its publications and the national Asian of the Year Awards.
As much as AsiaNetwork brings Asian culture and heritage into mainstream consciousness, it also shares the unique perspectives, experience and knowledge of people with an Asian background with those in other Canadian communities.
The AsiaNetwork Asian of the Year Awards began modestly in 2006 to give recognition in AsiaNetwork Magazine to unsung heroes among Asian Canadians, and they now include well known Canadians, such as the Rt. Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, the former Governor General of Canada, the Rt. Honourable Jean Chretien, the former Prime Minister of Canada, who can rightly be hailed as inspirational leaders and role models for us all.
As noted by the Honourable Sheila Copps, Chair of the Award Selection Committee, "...the awards are important because they link mainstream Canada with a flourishing and diverse segment - Asian Canadians. The awards not only showcase the contributions made by Asian Canadians, but also spread awareness about the cultural and economic contributions being made to bolster Canada's position in the world."
The annual AsiaNetwork awards are managed by the Asian of the Year Society, through generous corporate contributions and the deep support of individuals, both of which have made the awards what they now are - a national programme of true distinction.
AsiaNetwork is a quarterly English language magazine and official publication for the national awards. They are produced by Lotus Media and Associates, consisting of members from the award winning publishing firm in the ethnic media industry. AsiaNetwork is sold through Chapters and Indigos, the largest book retail chain in Canada as well as distributed through controlled circulation in the Asian diplomatic community, Canadian government agencies, Asian Canadian professionals, business and trade councils, universities and libraries, as well as Asian community associations across Canada.
